Sold $37,000
October 14, 2023 October Gallery Auction
Tom and Rita Benton aren’t known
to have collaborated on actual art
projects so much as their teamwork
in molding Tom’s career into that of a
major American artist. This lot from
the collection of their longtime friend
and neighbor Ann Constable saw
Tom’s handiwork in the form of paint
and graphite while Rita’s contribution
involved a needle and wool yarn.
Begun around 1922, this project of
paint and fiber was never actually
completed but still sold for $37,000
after our Fall 2023 auction to a Kansas City couple who are among the fresh
crop of emerging local collectors to watch in the years to come.
