170: A LARGE AUSTRIAN GROUP OF MARK ANTHONY AFTER STRASSER

A circa 1900 matte-glazed Austrian pottery grouping depicts a healthy Marcus Antonius riding in an open front chariot pulled by a team of lions. This pottery version is based on the monumental, larger-than-life version sculpted by Arthur Strasser (1854 - 1927) in bronze and installed outside the Secession Building in Vienna Austrian in 1898. This pottery version is fitted with a clock dial and signed A. Strasser along the front. There are no other markings though this piece is typically signed Amphora. Measures 25.5 x 11 x 17.25 inches. The clock is incomplete.
The clock is loosed in it's setting, the face shows some oxidation and the minute hand is missing. Scattered minor glaze rubs, one hairline crack around the right front paw of the lioness in back. Another hairline crack around the paw of the lioness to the left of the male lion. A 1/4-inch hairline crack in the lion's mane. Caked dust throughout.
