Harper's Ferry, US Black Powder
Smoothbore, .69 caliber musket, Model 1816/1822 flintlock was converted from flintlock to percussion ignition. The tail of the lock is marked 'HARPERS FERRY 1852' and the national eagle above 'US' forward of the hammer. Stock is one-piece smooth wood, straight grip with metal butt plate marked 'US.' Barrel has front blade sight and lug for a socket bayonet. Includes metal ramrod.
Measures 58 inch overall, 41 inch barrel.
Outside surface of barrel and tang heavily pitted. All metal with a heavy brown patina. Stock with many dings,scratches, few cracks and some letters scratched in. Nipple missing. Front barrel band spring missing.
