The red field with a central circular blue and ivory arabesque scroll medallion enclosing a pale blue cruciform centerpiece supported by mirrored vases, surrounded by curvilinear scrolling vines issuing palmettes among flower heads and leaves, quarter medallion spandrels within a blue border enclosing continuous palmettes and pendants linked by scrolling arabesques and flowering vines.
Measures 128 x 89 inches.
Worn to the foundation in areas at one end as shown.
Provenance: The estate of Morton and Estelle Sosland.In Kansas City, the Sosland family name is synonymous with both giving, and the arts. Of their many contributions to the community, 'The Soslands gave one of the nation's finest private collections of American Indian art to the Nelson-Atkins' museum (nelson-atkins.org).
