A RARE, POSSIBLY UNIQUE STEUBEN CRYSTAL ENGRAVING

2: A RARE, POSSIBLY UNIQUE STEUBEN CRYSTAL ENGRAVING

An impressive crystal centerpiece on stand, signed 'Steuben' in etched script on the underside of the base, highly competent engraved decoration of an eagle in flight. No record of similar examples could be found, suggesting the decoration could be a special order or commission.
The decoration is an exceptional example of glass engraving depicting a detailed image of an eagle in full flight approaching the viewer and carrying in its talons a line, or wire or fiber optic line which is further portrayed encircling the base in a loose coil. Provenance: the estate of Paul Henson, "the telephone executive who built the first major fiber optic network" (New York Times, 1997). Mr. Henson served as Sprint Corporation chairman and CEO.
Measures 10.5 x 11.75 inches.
Very fine condition free from chips, cracks, repairs, scratches or wear beyond the base, if then.
