Jackson Lee Nesbitt
Tapping a Heat - Sheffield Steel Corporation (1937)
The industrial scene composition titled 'Tapping a Heat - Sheffield Steel Corporation' in pencil lower left, numbered 2/80 center below the image, signed by the artist in pencil and dated lower right.
In 1937, the Sheffield Steel Corporation commissioned Nesbitt to document the monumental task of steel making, like Tapping a Heat where the clay plug in giant cauldrons suspended from equally large crane hooks are tapped and 2500 degree molten steel is poured into ingot molds.
Sheet measures 14 x 10.5 inches in a 20 x 16 inch mat.
Very good condition, noting a very pale outline form a former mat, slightly uneven margins, professionally removed from backing, not laid down, no punctures, tears or other issues.
