'WE WANT A BEER' AN ORIGINAL PROHIBITION-ERA CAR PLATE

276: 'WE WANT A BEER' AN ORIGINAL PROHIBITION-ERA CAR PLATE

The cast aluminum plate, presumably for mounting on an automobile, with openwork political figures and slogan that grew from a Beer for Taxation march organized in New York by the city's mayor on May 14, 1932, roughly one year before the repeal of prohibition. What began as a rally and speech challenging anyone to find a better means of raising much-needed tax revenue during the Great Depression became more widely known as the WE WANT BEER PARADE.
Measures 5 x 8.5 inches.
Very good condition.
