A VERY RARE BLUE OVERLAY PEKING GLASS OPIUM LAMP

330: A VERY RARE BLUE OVERLAY PEKING GLASS OPIUM LAMP

A Chinese three-part oil lamp made to heat and vaporize opium in the latter part of the 19th century. Three of the four original parts are present and consist of a Peking glass bell-shape cover with open top encircled by carved blue overlaid glass decoration of flying bats above four auspicious characters, the carved glass base with openwork designs of bats and coins stands on three ruyi-form feet and is fitted with a central nickel aperture to receive the stem of a bulbous carved blue overlay Peking glass font. Apparently a small glass disk centered by a metal wick tube is missing from the top of the font. The overall size is 6.5 x 3.5 inches.
Very good condition. Probably missing one small piece from top of the central bowl. A small flake from the blue overlay trim at the extreme bottom edge of the bowl. Chips on the outside edge of two of the ruyi-form feet.
