A pair of Japanese Satsuma ware bottle vases with applied relief design of a dragon curling around the necks, overlapping medallions featuring an assortment of figural and landscape designs including women and children, samurai, courtiers, and Rakan, all surrounded by dense brocades of abstract and natural motifs, Meiji period late 19th century. Shimazu clan Satsuma mark on base, with inscription by maker, "Satsuma Hotoda" (Satsuma ware produced by Hotoda workshop). Overglaze enamels and gold pigment on earthenware. Measures 12 x 5 inches.
Very good condition. There are no chips, cracks, repairs, loss of enamel or condition issues.
