A 16.5 INCH ACID CUT BACK VASE ATTRIBUTED SINCLAIR

118: A 16.5 INCH ACID CUT BACK VASE ATTRIBUTED SINCLAIR

An Art Deco period Egyptian Revival motif intaglio decorated glass vase attributed to the H.P. Sinclaire Glass Company's Nubian Black line. This large and impressive mirror black glass vase has a flaring top rim over a band of acid cut-back pointed leaves encircling the vase shoulder; the vase body decorated with four large acid cut-back panels with a standing male figure and dog framed within a collection of motifs, designs, art and themes drawn from ancient Egyptian culture. A second band of acid cut-back leaves pointing upward encircles the bottom edge of the slightly tapered body terminating to a waisted collar just above the bulbous pad foot. The base is ground smooth and centered by a large 2.5 inch polished pontil (a common Sinclaire characteristic). Estelle Sinclaire Farrar's book, H.P. Sinclaire Jr. Glassmaker, published by Farrar Books, Garden City, N.Y., 1975 includes a re-print of Sinclaire's original catalog line drawings. Sinclaire's vase shape number 13063 is identical in size and shape to this piece. The original catalog lists the size at 16.5 inches and this example measures 16.5 x 8 inches.
Very fine condition. There are no chips, cracks, repairs, scratches or wear to any degree beyond shelf wear on the polished base. The mirror black surface is flawless.
