Billy the Kid Buttoning His Trousers (1985)
An original watercolor signed lower left, an illustration for True West magazine by its editor, Old West historian and artist Bob Boze Bell. The image depicts the legendary outlaw Billy The Kid just before finally being killed by lawman Pat Garrett. "Garrett posts his two deputies at the front gate and goes inside. Poe sits on the edge of the steps in the open gate, and McKinney squats just outside. Both immediately notice a lone figure approaching on the inside of the fence. He is hatless and in his stocking feet. In the moonlight, Poe notices he is buttoning his trousers."
Site size through the mat 16.25 x 13.5, the frame is 23.5 x 20.5 inches.
The visible areas of this work are in excellent condition though it has not been examined outside the framing.
