A VERY LARGE ATYPICAL JAPANESE PORCELAIN FISH BOWL

242: A VERY LARGE ATYPICAL JAPANESE PORCELAIN FISH BOWL

Circa the second half of 19th century, Japanese porcelain decorated largely in Chinese motifs, but with exceptions such as the kneeling woman in the red kimono at the centre of one group which resembles closely a figure from a Japanese print, and the women's hair-do's are an aberration as well, the exterior decorated in bright colors and in early 19th century Chinese Canton export style with two large panels of ladies of quality in a pavilion and in a garden with other buildings beyond, against a highly decorated dark blue ground, the interior of the bowl is decorated with small fish swimming amongst aquatic weeds, the very bottom center with a large gold fish (largely worn away).
Measures 10.5 x 20.5 inches.
Very good condition, free from chips, cracks, repairs, heavy wear inside bottom area has caused the image of a gold fish to be largely diminished.
