A MONUMENTAL 19C. CHINESE BRONZE EAGLE WITH DRAGON

102: A MONUMENTAL 19C. CHINESE BRONZE EAGLE WITH DRAGON

A flared wing eagle atop a rocky crag encircled by a climbing three-toed dragon and water waves. Bronze cast in pieces and pinned together, circa late 19th century, brown patina. Measures 50 inches to the topmost wing-tip, on a 24 x 17 inch base. Provenance: The J.C. Nichols company, Kansas City, Missouri, purchased for the company's home offices by J.C. Nichols circa 1930. We happily provide seamless in-house packing and shipping services on nearly everything we sell.
Very good noting that of the various cast and joined pieces, the dragon head, a portion of the body including one three-toed leg and a leg have all become separated. The pins for these pieces no longer hold the elements in place, epoxy residue in some areas on these pieces. No other issues of damage or repair, no heavy wear, no lost pieces. There is an area of porosity in the casting that results in two irregular openings original to the manufacture of the object.
