A circa 1820's compass in a nailed pine box of the period and in old red stain, hand chamfered slide-in lid, compass in bronze gimbals, paper card dial cover with overlaid interior chapter that reads S. THAXTER & SON. Face measures 4 inches, in 6 x 8 x 8 inch wooden case.
