A Japanese painted and patinated base metal (probably antimony) figure of a festival procession participant wearing a kimono and hapi coat and carrying a standard representing a sheaf of rice straw, one of numerous participants in a matsuri or festival procession, each would be carrying a pole depicting an emblem of his trade or industry. This figure appears to have a sheaf of rice and would have represented the sake industry, the Japanese drink made from fermented rice.
Measures 11.5 x 3.75 x 3 inches.
Slight bends to rod in left hand, appears to be missing something from his right.
