A VERY RARE OPIUM LAMP WITH RED PEKING GLASS BASE

347: A VERY RARE OPIUM LAMP WITH RED PEKING GLASS BASE

A Chinese three-part oil lamp made to heat and vaporize opium in the latter part of the 19th century. Three of the four original parts are present and consist of a polished smooth, clear glass pyramidal-shape chimney with open top over a bulbous nine-sided ruby flashed glass font with etched florals standing on a Peking glass base of carved red overlaid glass having an apron of scrolling designs centered by bats within three ruyi-form feet; the deck of the circular base is a cut openwork glass design of florals and foliage with a central opening to receive the post of the font. Apparently a small glass disk centered by a metal wick tube is missing from the top of the font. The overall measurements are 5.5 x 3.25 inches overall. Provenance: The Joseph Candioto Trust. We ship in-house for all items with the exception of very large and or very fragile pieces and some international shipments.
Very good condition. Probably missing one small piece from top of the central bowl. One foot has two very small flakes: one of these being very small and from the red trim area, the other small chip is on an inside clear surface. The base with a stress line at the central hole and another small half round internal bruise in the glass this same area. There are no major chips, cracks or repairs.
