289: AN ASSEMBLED PAIR OF CHINESE HIGHLY CARVED CHAIRS

Two late 19th century chairs with oval padded back surrounded by thick molded frame and surmounted by an intricately carved openwork crest, one having fruiting foliage and the other of two figures with fawn within reserve amongst flowering prunus and fruiting branches, over thickly padded compass seat with conforming carved openwork skirt. Each is raised on cabriole legs headed by carved masks and terminating in ball and claw feet; upholstered in black and white zebra stripe fabric. Each measures approximately 45 x 22 x 25 inches. Provenance: The Joseph Candioto Trust. We ship in-house for all items with the exception of very large and or very fragile pieces and some international shipments.
No chipped carvings found, the drop in seat and backs come loose easily, the joint where seat meets back is somewhat loose on both chairs. Sturdy and good overall free from damage or repair.
