MANNER OF HYACINTHE RIGAUD: PORTRAIT OF A MAN IN ARMOR

210: MANNER OF HYACINTHE RIGAUD: PORTRAIT OF A MAN IN ARMOR

A full length oil on canvas portrait depicting a high ranking French military officer in armor, his right hand on the blue velvet Marshal of France baton, his body angled slightly and his face is turned to the viewer as in van Dyck's earlier portrait of Charles I. Symbolic of the monarchy, a blue velvet robe with black-and-white ermine fur and gold fleur-de-lis is billowed about behind him, a cherub under the table beside him represents god's strength and protection.
Circa early 19th century. Canvas measures 71 x 42, frame measures 80 x 50. Provenance: The Joseph Candioto Trust. We ship in-house for all items with the exception of very large and or very fragile pieces and some international shipments.
Very good, noting the discolored splotchy areas of touch-up visible just above the subject's head, no other inpaint, no re-lining, no damage or repair. Minor surface rubs and soiling.
