69: A 17TH C. BRUSSELS WOOL AND SILK MYTHOLOGICAL TAPESTRY

A 17th century figural tapestry picturing figures in armour, one wounded in his arm by an arrow, and two elegantly clad ladies in a wooded landscape with further depictions of battle, all within a floral border. A well-made piece of good size easily incorporated to interiors. Measures 111 x 136 inches. Provenance: The Joseph Candioto Trust. Very good sturdy condition noting the typical number of improvements and reinforcements. Reinforcement throughout, re-weave and repair on the sash of the right-hand figure, reweave and repair just below the figure on the right, an approximate 6 inch diameter repair below the elbow of the central female figure, considerable re-weave on the dress of the left-hand figure, reinforcement near the shoulder of the farthest left hand female figure, replaced portion 6-inches diameter within the foliage upper left corner.
