Home / World Treasures from the Estate of Joseph Earl Candioto - Session II / A GOOD PAIR OF 19TH C. BRONZE AND MARBLE CASSOULETS

65: A GOOD PAIR OF 19TH C. BRONZE AND MARBLE CASSOULETS

A pair of French gilt bronze and rouge griotte marble cassoulets, each with an acanthus bud finial, bronze acanthus mounts, a foliate frieze at the shoulder and dramatic intertwined snakes each side, both cast in great detail, additional cast bronze acanthus adornment just above the socle and on the square marble base finished with a gilt bronze base plate. Cast bronze snakes symbolize protection in some cultures and immortality in others. Each measure 19 x 9.5 inches. Provenance: The Joseph Candioto Trust. We ship in-house for all items with the exception of very large and or very fragile pieces and some international shipments.
Very good condition, noting moderate darkening of the original gilt bronze castings commensurate with age. Three to five very minor chips on either the top edge or perhaps a corner of the marble base. No damage, repair or issues beyond these. Very good overall.
