A 19TH CENTURY BRONZE AND ROUGE MARBLE DOUBLE INKWELL

57: A 19TH CENTURY BRONZE AND ROUGE MARBLE DOUBLE INKWELL

A rouge marble base double inkwell with male and female figures in patinated bronze representing Night and Day as sculpted by Michelangelo for the tomb of Giuliano de' Medici, further bronze mounts and two glass lined inkwells topped by bronze covers with figural fruit and foliage designs. The overall measurements are 9 x 20 x 10 inches. Provenance: The Joseph Candioto Trust. We ship in-house for all items with the exception of very large and or very fragile pieces and some international shipments.
The marble base has suffered a complete break through the back side of the opening for the proper right insert. The repair is complete and secure and not readily apparent. It can be seen only from the back corner and the underside. Otherwise the condition is very good with original patina, complete inkwell parts throughout, a minor area of wear to the patinated bronze back plate. No other repair, no damage or losses.
