A gem of a painting in the more painterly impressionist style of Van Millet's earlier works, painted on mahogany cigar box lid of the period, signed lower right front, a label verso lettered by hand reads ''Golden Grain' by George Van Millet, a prominent K.C. painter. These small paintings on a cigar box lid were his 'pot boilup' he needed money. I bought this in 1903 with the first money I ever earned giving lessons in basket weaving. It has never been cleaned and should be covered in glass. Aunt Nell.'
This fine example of painting and frame are original to one another and of the period indicated, circa 1900.
Board measures 4.25 x 6.5 with a framed size of 10.5 x 11.75 inches.
Very good original untouched condition. There are no issues of scratches, losses, repairs, in-painting or touch-up.
Provenance: Acquired directly from the artist and descended through the original owner's family.
