THOMAS HART BENTON (1889-1975) PENCIL-SIGNED LITHOGRAPH

100: THOMAS HART BENTON (1889-1975) PENCIL-SIGNED LITHOGRAPH

Thomas Hart Benton (1889-1975)
Island Hay (1945)
Drawn from a haying scene first sketched in the 1920s, most likely on the Henry Look farm near Benton's home on Martha's Vineyard. 'In the uneven fields on Martha's Vineyard the reapers still mow with their long scythes, for the contour of the small fields makes a reaping machine impractical.'
Signed in pencil lower right. Fath No. 68, edition of 250 prints.
Sheet measures 11.25 x 14 inches in a 16 x 20 inch frame.
Very good condition, noting the shadow of a previous mount visible when the mat has been removed, tape stain extreme upper margin, good wide margins, not laid down, no damage, punctures or repair.
