131: A FOLK ART TABLE ATTR TO INMATE WILLIAM HARVEY C. 1900

The eight-sided top with detailed inlays of the phases of the moon, musical lyre and nautical anchors, decorative inlays and a central interpretation of a U.S. seal that incorporates the thirteen stars, pyramid and 1776, ornate scalloped skirt with additional inlays, eight drop finials, turned cherry wood legs and carved supports. See the Kansas Museum of History for a very similar example presented to William E. Stanley during his term as Governor of Kansas (1899-1903.) 'The table was made by William Payne Harvey, an inmate at the State Penitentiary at Lansing convicted of murdering the mayor of Kinsley. Harvey was released after serving eighteen years at the penitentiary.', (Kansapedia Kansas Historical Society).
Measures 26.5 x 32.25 x 32.25 inches.
Very good condition, noting very minor effects of age and use, there may have been feet that are absent now.
