227: A FINE AND UNUSUAL AMERICAN OAK DINING TABLE W/CHAIRS

The table with rectangular overhanging quarter-sawn oak top over a plain frieze with applied carved scrolling acanthus corners over a beaded edge, supported on an unusual paneled trestle base centering carved scrolling blossoming vines flanked by bead-and-reel carvings and terminating in scrolled acanthus carved feet. The ten walnut chairs, two host chairs with arms, each having carved rectangular crest rail with carved chain of flowers and clovers on a stippled ground, above an inset carved horizontal splat of three-leaf clovers on a stippled ground and braced by vertical incised splats over a horizontal splat of conforming design flanked by molded out-curving stiles, the arm chairs having straight squared arms with scrolled handholds, over a padded and upholstered trapezoidal seat, molded seat rail and stretchers, raised on cylindrical tapering legs headed by rosette-carved die joins, upholstered in green leather trimmed with brass nailheads.
Table measures 29.5 x 100 x 48 inches. Chair measures 38 x 22 x 24 inches.
Excellent condition, White paint is on the edge two leaves.
