A VERY FINE 33-INCH SEVRES VASE SIGNED G. POITEVIN

91a: A VERY FINE 33-INCH SEVRES VASE SIGNED G. POITEVIN

An exceptional example of execution, design and condition. The domed cover with gilded acanthus bud finial on the baluster form body with gilt bronze acanthus handles each side of the hand painted scene of a classical maiden with airborne cherub in a flower garden, raised on a celeste blue spindle mounted base with gilded bronze lion mask dolphins at each of the canted corners. The body revolves on the central spindle base to display the alternate image of an oval reserve landscape with distant castle near a body of water. Artist signed G. Poitevin at the lower left of the front reserve, Sevres cipher signature under the domed cover and inside the base. This rates as a very fine and unusual example.
Very good condition. There is a very tight line around the most slender portion of the base, just below the pronounced ring trimmed in gold. There are no other chips, cracks, repairs, scratches or issues of wear, no loss, no bits of wear to any raised gold enamels. Bright and nice overall in gold trim and surface shine. The body is visibly crazed overall. Under close, critical examination it is possible to find one tiny bit of blue paint loss on the front edge of the base. Some drip marks of plaster residue from under bronze mounts can be seen on the base.
