139: A NICE 19TH C. AMERICAN SPlINT GATHERING BASKET

With bent wood swing handle and formed wood lugs at each side in which the handle is attached, eight wide ribs form the basic structure within the woven body, sixteen staves in a star form reinforce the concave base. This basket is an interesting example of construction with nice patina.
Measures 10.25 x 14.5 inches.
The effects of age and use in the form of minor splits in the extreme bent wood areas, discoloration to the underside of the concave base, minor loss in one quadrant at the curvature of the base.
