A still life composition of pumpkin and ears of corn spilling from a splint basket, the kernels of each ear depicted in the distinctive thick impasto technique unique to Alfred Montgomery, signed lower left and dated 1919, displayed in an oak frame of the period, probably the original. An inscription verso reads, "The reason I did not paint a better picture for my cousin Mrs Shoa_ _ is because I could not do it - my wife bossed the job". A sketch and second signature with price of $200 are found on the reverse as well.
The work measures 16 x 20 inches.
Very good original condition. no damage, repair or in-painting, subtle unevenness of the surface.
