VERY RARE UP RR TREASURE ISLAND SPECIAL EXPO TAIL SIGN

92: VERY RARE UP RR TREASURE ISLAND SPECIAL EXPO TAIL SIGN

The rectangular tail sign with slightly rounded front skin of molded plastic with an intaglio aerial perspective of the fair centered by the Tower of The Sun landmark and lettered TREASURE ISLAND SPECIAL back lit and framed in a thin rectangular can with stainless steel bezel.
Union Pacific put on a new streamliner to handle the increase in traffic headed to Treasure Island, an artificial island built in the San Francisco Bay specifically for the 1939 Golden Gate International Exposition. the attached images from William K. Kratville's Steam, Steel & Limiteds show the train and an identical sign in service.
Measures 26 x 34 x 5.25 inches.
Very good original condition, noting the effects of age and exposure, missing paint from the can, wear and soiling of the blue can paint, splits and very minor loss in the plastic front.
Provenance: The Collection of Ed McHugh, Massillon, Ohio
